Ingredients

  • 4 lamb shanks
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups of broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Preparation Steps

Cooking the Lamb Shank

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Season the lamb shanks generously with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. In a large ovenproof skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Brown the lamb shanks on all sides until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Transfer the skillet to the oven and roast for about 2 to 2.5 hours, or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes

While the lamb is roasting, place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot of boiling salted water. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Keep warm.

Steaming the Broccoli

In the last 5 minutes of the lamb’s cooking time, steam the broccoli florets until bright green and tender, about 4-5 minutes. You can use a steamer basket over boiling water or a microwave-safe dish with a lid. Season lightly with salt if desired.

Serving Suggestions

Arrange the lamb shanks on a serving platter, spoon the mashed potatoes alongside, and add the steamed broccoli for a colorful and nutritious side. Garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary or parsley for added flavor. Serve hot and enjoy a comforting, well-rounded meal.
